I have been out of touch with sewing for over thirty years and a few weeks ago I attempted to make a suit from the pattern New Look 6570 size 18. I cut out the layout for a size 18 and realized latter that I needed to add an addition 2” allowance for the seam. Guess what, the jacket was a little small but look pretty good for a person who hasn’t sewn in years. I realized I needed to take my time and pay more attention to the sleeves. I made a mistake on the setting of the sleeve when gathers them to fit into the armhole. Any how I insert the sleeve and it could have been better. This allowed me the opportunity to see all of my mistakes and to practice on the areas. Another thing, I could rip them out but the type of material was fray and therefore, I just left it alone. Oh well, the lesson from this was to take my time and don't rush and make sure I allow enough room for the seam. In all, the Jacket came out okay but I will need to loose a little weight in order to close the jacket, anyway but, I do not wear my jackets closed anyway it will be okay.
Now, I am reading the blogs of other great sewers and getting tips as well as motivation to do great work like them. As well as visiting the library to get books on these gray areas in my sewing… That is my story for today. I will post some of my work later this month and others beginners can see my baby steps in sewing. Have a great day.
